Trumpet Accessories

Like any other instrument, playing the trumpet requires more than just the instrument. There are trumpet accessories that are needed for the care and maintenance of the horn, and others that are used to create variation in sound. Tuners and metronomes are often recommended as well.

Trumpet accessories for horn maintenance are very important. Brushes and specialty cloths are used to clean both the inside and outside of the instrument. Valve oil is also essential for maintaining the smooth action required for optimal performance.

Mutes are common trumpet accessories. The Harmon mute, made popular by Miles Davis, creates a unique “buzzing” sound that is popular with many jazz musicians. The cup mute is designed to cut out all but the middle frequencies, creating a muffled tone.
